It’s Summer. Again.

It is that time of year again. I see Facebook posts where people are still complaining about winter. (One friend posted yesterday that it was 24 degrees when she woke up, and I have seen countless reports from the Northeast of very chilly people). But here in Florida, it is a different story.

It is summer. Yes, it is March and barely Spring, but that doesn’t seem to matter this far south. It is already warm, and shaping up to be a very hot summer. Just yesterday, FKGuy was playing tennis and commenting on the heat. He changed shirts several times and still needed to dump ice water over his head to cool down. that does not bode well for July or August. I know everyone is talking about how hot it is, but I can tell you this: if it were August, there is no chance I could play singles tennis for hours on end. Or doubles, for that matter. It is simply too hot for me.

After playing a couple of hours of tennis, we headed over to our friends house for a doggie pool party. There were ten dogs, ten adults and one small child (who really enjoyed playing in the dogs’ water bowl.) The pool was warm, there were mimosas and quiche and everyone had a good time. Babka and Latke were particularly pleased as nobody forced them into the pool, so they could be left alone to chase lizards in the yard. And stalk humans that had the nerve to be eating.

Babka and Latke played with their friends, and made some new ones, while we lingered in the pool with mimosas. That is what I call a win-win.

As for summer? Well, it is coming fast. Pretty soon we will not be able to go outside without sweating. We’ll need to eat indoors more, and limit the tennis time. But for now, we still need the pool heater on, as the water is only 80 degrees, and for this Floridian that is simply too cold.
