You can never have too many stems...
The Key West Food and Wine Festival has become one of the most anticipated events of the year. It draws a crowd from all over the place, and for good reason: A) It is in January, in Florida; B) It’s not so overpriced and crowded, like some other festivals around the country and C) The unique events are really fun.

I will admit, when Lucy Burdette’s book showed up at my door, I was a little surprised. I don’t usually do book reviews, but I do read. Sometimes grudgingly. I read books for my book club once a month, but it has been a while since I enjoyed one of those, and frankly, I have read some truly awful book club books. So, I was delighted to have a novel in hand – paperback, no less – to read while lounging on the deck. Continue reading An Appetite For Murder, by Lucy Burdette

 Babka "guarding" the window
As a new dog owner, I know that one of the things the “experts” warn against is humanizing your dog. I get it. Babka’s a dog. She barks, plays, “kills” a toy squirrel every chance she gets and loves treats. She also talks to me. Here are some of the highlights of the last three weeks: Continue reading Things My Dog Says

This weekend marks the second annual Key West Food and Wine Festival. It is a weekend of festivities and fun and draws a crowd from all over. We kicked off the weekend at the Barefoot Beach Party, followed by the Petronia neighborhood stroll. The weather was a perfect 65 degrees and sunny as we arrived at the Southernmost Beach Cafe for the beach party. Continue reading Food Wine and Fun

OK, it felt like it was 200 degrees outside and I was drinking iced tea, but you get the idea. Like many other businesses in Key West, everyone thinks they are the Southernmost something-or-other. For the Southernmost Beach Cafe, the name is accurate at least for the moment – they are the cafe that is furthest south on the actual beach.
It is a typical on-the-sand type of place in that the lunch menu consists of mainly salads, sandwiches, burgers and big, fruity cocktails. Continue reading Restaurant Review: Southernmost Beach Cafe

As I was talking up Barefoot Billy’s Jet Ski Tour over on Cruise Critic, reader Michelle from Indiana pointed out the lack of review here on Florida Keys Girl. So, here you go Michelle:
After some extenuating circumstances that made our friends from Tampa miss the big wine weekend, they finally made it down for a visit a few weeks ago. Our friend is a native Floridian who had never been south of Cutler Ridge, so we had to make the most of the couple’s three days in Key West. We let them spend the afternoon at Sloppy Joe’s before meeting up for a great dinner (and wine dinner do-over) at Blackfin Bistro on Duval Street. Salute! on the beach has one of the best restaurant settings anywhere. It is located in Key West on Higgs beach, with a small path separating the restaurant from the sand, volleyball net and water. I suppose technically it is on the Atlantic side, but it is at about the Southernmost point in the continental US, . . . → Read More: Dinner on the Beach
