I was recently approached by the folks at Cheapflights.com to answer a few questions about the Florida Keys and Key West for their Insider’s Guide to the Keys. Naturally, since I can’t shut up about how great Key West, and all of the Keys are, I answered. At length. Great restaurants? Check. Fun things to do . . . → Read More: Florida Keys Girl’s Insider’s Guide to the Keys

Key West Story is the newest book from author Rick Skwiot, and the latest book I have forced upon my book club. I’m glad I did. The book is a great read. Our main character, Con, finds himself in a bit of a bind and needs to make some interesting choices. Continue reading Key West Story, by Rick Skwiot

- The large, on the wall version of the tiny menu
Kojin Noodle Bar occupies a tiny space on Southard Street. Formerly, for about five minutes, it was a wing place, which I never had the chance to try. Oh well. Fortunately something good has moved in, and it is the neighbor everyone wants: low key and good food. I was excited to hear that a noodle bar had opened, virtually at the same time as 2¢. Could it be? Two new, good places at once? Indeed. Continue reading Kojin Noodle Bar, Key West

Rumors abounded over what would open on Applerouth Lane, in the former home of Ilona’s. (OK, so maybe not exactly rumors… when I met the chef and one of the owners one evening at the Orchid Bar, he mentioned the forthcoming gastropub.) I broke my first rule of new restaurants - let them work out the kinks for a few months and see if they survive, then go for a meal - just to check it out. Continue reading 2¢, Key West

 Smokin' margaritas
I had been meaning to check out the Smokin‘ Tuna since they opened a couple of months ago, but just did not have the opportunity. Then, last weekend, after I had registered for the Hog‘s Breath 5K, as we were making our way up Duval, we saw a guy outside advertising the Smokin’ Tuna. Normally, I would have ignored him and kept walking, but he said the magic words… “You can bring your dog.” Babka loved the idea. Continue reading Smokin’ Tuna Saloon, Key West

Normally, I review one restaurant or meal at a time. This past weekend, however, deserves a recap of its own. Since my cousin was coming to town and we have many of the same interests, mainly revolving around eating, drinking and a love-hate relationship with running, I planned the eating and drinking (and a little running) tour of Key West. Babka at the Hog's Breath with Alison.
For the past eighteen years the Hog’s Breath has put on the Hog Trot, a Thanksgiving weekend 5K race. This was only my second one. I signed up late, was congested and had both wine and margaritas the night before. There was no way it was going to go well for me. Continue reading Hog’s Breath Hog Trot 5K

As the summer comes to an end, Floridians are hoping for a breath of cooler winter air. I assume we will be waiting another three months for that. Meanwhile, enjoy the bar-b-ques, get togethers and long weekend.
This weekend in Key West is Brewfest, a beer-filled festival. I know what you’re thinking: Key West is always a . . . → Read More: Labor Day Weekend

Imagine yourself on a hot and humid day, just aching to swim in a nice, cool pool. Sure, you could go to the beach, but then you would get all sandy and need to pack a picnic lunch to bring along. It requires a little forward thinking, or at least a trip to the store before heading to the sand. Happily, Dante’s provides a nice alternative – huge pool and surprisingly good food. The “Duval Crawl” is famous. People from all over the world come to Key West and drink at the bars both on and off Duval Street. There are even shore excursions from cruise ships offered to do the crawl. Although, I don’t understand why you would need a tour guide to take you up a street to different bars. Plus, new places keep popping up – bars, wine bars, taco joints – and they all have their own unique twist. Continue reading Key West Bar Krawl
