The Candle-less Birthday

Happy Birthday

Now THAT is a good birthday celebration!

I love celebrating my birthday. Maybe it is because I was born on Christmas Eve, so people tend to forget about it (seriously, how can you forget someone’s birthday on Christmas Eve? I remember birthdays of people I only marginally know if it is on a big holiday.) Maybe it is because I am an only child and crave attention. Maybe I just like the candles and the guilt-free dessert. ..I’m pretty sure that is it. Continue reading The Candle-less Birthday

Christmas 2010

As one would expect we did not have a white Christmas in Key West (fortunately), but we did have a perfect weather day with bright blue skies, no clouds and no humidity. My day started with a few sets of tennis, followed by a potluck picnic with the tennis crowd at Bayview Park. There was ham, potatoes, stuffing, salads, smoked fish and more. That is all before we got to the dessert table – multiple key lime pies, brownie cupcakes with peanut butter frosting (made by yours truly), gingerbread cake, cookies and more. FKGuy did some noshing then went back for more tennis. Me? I played tennis, worked up an appetite and never got myself back on the courts after lunch.

Yom Sport (The Day of Sport)

When I was a kid at camp there was always a Yom Sport (“Yom” is the Hebrew word for day). It was a whole day of sporting events, and my own personal nightmare. I was not such an athletic child. I’m not sure I am such an athletic adult, either, but I try. Our Key West Yom Sport started with the Team in Training Run, Run Rudolph 5K “fun run”  to benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Naturally, as a member of the team, I signed up to participate. I also signed up FKGuy to run. Since I got him an iPod shuffle for Hanukkah, he now has some tunes and less reason to complain. As this was a fun run, it was not a timed event. Yes, we still had bibs and there was a big clock at the start, so I could see that I had my fastest time ever. Alas, I will not make it into any record books, except my own. Continue reading Yom Sport (The Day of Sport)

Tis the Season

I have a love-hate relationship with the entire month of December. I love celebrating my birthday (December 24). I love that there are a million things to do and events to attend. I love baking cookies and boxing them up for family, friends and clients as if they were an extravagant gift. However, I hate the pressure of making 1,000 perfect cookies. FKGuy is not a big fan of assembling said boxes, either. I hate the guilt of not going to certain parties. So, what’s a person to do? Continue reading Tis the Season

My First Christmas Tree

I always like Christmas trees. For one thing, they can take up an entire living room, or just a table. They can be decorated an infinite number of ways: they can be fabulous and glitzy, understated or downright tacky. But they are always a lot of fun. Maybe that is because I don’t have to clean . . . → Read More: My First Christmas Tree

The Grinch Who Stole My Parade

Key west is great. People there will throw a parade for just about anything. From Fantasy Fest nuttiness to the holiday season they have it covered. This year was the first time we have seen the Christmas parade. It was filled with abut 60 floats (one of which was the Miata clubs mini-parade of 20 or . . . → Read More: The Grinch Who Stole My Parade
