Key West Food and Wine Festival kick off party
Last night was the kick off of the Key West Food and Wine Festival, and there is no better place to do that than on the sand at the Southernmost Hotel on the Beach. Tables with wine and food are set up as guests mingle and the sun sets. Continue reading It Ends With Grease

 Sporting our Venetian masks
I know you can’t wait until next week, so today I am bringing back some of the favorite photos of the last few years. In addition, if you haven’t yet planned out your whole week, here are a few choices for what to do. There is no shortage of drinking, costuming, body painting, etc.

 The great salad
Rooftop Cafe is in a lovely location on Front Street. The outdoor deck and seating above the street is really lovely. I hadn’t been there in about ten years, and I think it will be another ten before I am back. Why? So many reasons… Continue reading Rooftop Cafe, Key West

We were going to sit in the lovely outside garden, but the weather was bad, so we opted to sit at the bar. We perused the specials and, although they all looked good, I knew what I was ordering right away. Continue reading 2¢ Brunch: Please Don’t Stop Making My Favorite Dish

This past week was Pride week, celebrated in cities across the country. In Key West it means parties, parties, more parties and a parade to cap it all off. The One Human Family philosophy comes together with floats, decorated cars and several people running for office showing their support. Babka was bummed out that it was too hot for her to go to the parade. She was even decked out in her Human Rights Campaign collar. Continue reading Pride

I was recently approached by the folks at Cheapflights.com to answer a few questions about the Florida Keys and Key West for their Insider’s Guide to the Keys. Naturally, since I can’t shut up about how great Key West, and all of the Keys are, I answered. At length. Great restaurants? Check. Fun things to do . . . → Read More: Florida Keys Girl’s Insider’s Guide to the Keys

I absolutely love the Waterfront Playhouse. It is right at Mallory Square, so once you get past the throngs of tourists there for sunset, it is a pleasure. The theater itself is small, charming and well air conditioned (hey, these things are important in Key West…) There is also not a bad seat in the house. Plus, it is Key West, so there is always a bar. Continue reading The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, Waterfront Playhouse, Key West

I keep meaning to go back for dinner now that they accept credit cards (I don’t usually carry cash) but just haven’t gotten there yet. Instead we went for brunch yesterday. Oh my. I have walked by New York Pasta Garden a bunch of times. It is next to Origami in Duval Square, between Simonton and Duval Streets, yet somehow I had not eaten there. They are on the Woman’s Club Card, so since we had a buy-one-get-one-free, I thought we’d give it a shot. Plus, sometimes you just need a big plate of pasta. (OK, I need that all the time!)
