Let the Fun Begin

Oooh, scary!

Originally created as a way to stimulate the local economy during the off-season, Fantasy Fest has become world famous for the parties, fun and yes, body painting. (See this post for Florida Keys Girl’s Rules to Remember During Fantasy Fest).

Today is the kickoff for the week-long fun fest. For months, people have been campaigning for the titles of King and Queen (and this year: King-ette) of Fantasy Fest. The road to royalty involves fundraising by any means possible: bingo, chicken drops, raffles and more. Continue reading Let the Fun Begin

Fantasy Fest 2010: The Parade

It is “the big event” every year at Fantasy Fest. Yes, I am talking about the parade. For me it is the big disappointment of Fantasy Fest. Why? Well, for one thing, I am not a big fan of standing around waiting for stuff to happen, which is what goes on when there are thousands of people loitering on the street waiting for the floats to start. Once said floats do start meandering up the street, there is way too much time between each one, meaning I am stuck looking at all of the naked people coming dangerously close to touching me. Yuck. Then there is “Sign Guy” who holds up a sign with his opinion about what his god thinks of the gay community.  He gets in . . . → Read More: Independence

Fantasy Fest Parade

Fantasy Fest seems to inspire all kinds – truly creative costumes, amazing body painting and, for some people, nudity for the sake of nudity. The parade is a huge array of floats with thousands of spectators. All in all, a good time. Here you will find some photos of the parade, and some of the more . . . → Read More: Fantasy Fest Parade

Masquerade March – Fantasy Fest

Every year on the Friday of Fantasy Fest, locals and some non-locals gather at the cemetery, in costume, and parade around the city. The group, several thousand strong, split in 2 groups and go in different directions, stopping at guesthouses along the route for (much needed in the heat) drinks.

Most people are costumed in some way. Although . . . → Read More: Masquerade March – Fantasy Fest
