Vito’s is on White Street, across from Sandy’s Cafe, and off the normal tourist path. Housed in a location that has seen several different incarnations in recent years, Vito’s is the newest Italian pizza joint on the scene. I wanted to try it the minute I saw they were open. I knew from past inhabitants of that space that they have a wonderful garden, so if the food is decent, it would be a handy place to have nearby. Continue reading Vito’s Piazza, Key West

The latest gallery opening in Key West is The Green Pineapple, located at 1130 Duval Street, across from La Te Da. The store is beautiful. It is not more of the same kitch, this place is truly unique. They sell everything from furniture (I have my eye on a green velvet bench) to bubble bath. In the back of the store, is lush.

Once we decided that the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon just was not happening for us last weekend, I thought that the least I could do is get a good lunch out of the deal. I had to go to South Beach that day to check on a hotel for a client, so we picked up our race t-shirts (which are very nice, by the way), took a stroll through the less-than-exciting expo, and made our way to have lunch at Fratelli La Bufala. The view from our table... not too shabby.
Last week, to kick of Eating Key West weekend (which, much to my dismay, was not a universally celebrated event), we stopped at Geiger Key Marina & Smokehouse for lunch. While we missed the Sunday B-B-Q day, we did enjoy a wonderful lunch there. Continue reading Geiger Key Marina & Restaurant

Normally, I review one restaurant or meal at a time. This past weekend, however, deserves a recap of its own. Since my cousin was coming to town and we have many of the same interests, mainly revolving around eating, drinking and a love-hate relationship with running, I planned the eating and drinking (and a little running) tour of Key West. As promised, here is a recap of the great meal we had last night. The food was delicious, the company superb and the best part? Not tons of leftovers.

Guacamole… not so traditional, but delicious. And with multi-color chips. Racial harmony in the chip basket. . . . → Read More: Thanksgiving: The Photos

Tomorrow is Thanksgiving, a time to reflect, to gather with family and to eat. Some people watch football, too, but I will pass on that particular tradition. Tomorrow evening will bring twenty people to my house for an assortment of good eats. The menu includes:
To start we will have potato knishes, pigs (really kosher hot dogs) . . . → Read More: Happy Thanksgiving

 Weinerschnitzel Benedict
My friends have raved about the Sunday brunch at Martin’s for quite a while, so this weekend we decided to give it a try. We arrived around noon and were seated in the back patio. There are a few seating choices: indoors in the dining room, out front watching the passers-by on Duval Street, the back patio and the center, lounge-y part complete with low tables and chairs. I liked our choice. Continue reading Martin’s, Key West

“It’s a great QPR” is often a term bandied about by wine geeks in search of something to have with a mid-week pizza. But I think it applies to just about everything in life. QPR stands for quality price ratio. So, let’s say you drink a crappy bottle of wine, but it only cost $10. Nope. Not a good QPR, because the Q (quality) part is missing from the equation. A $50 bottle of wine, however, might be a great QPR because the quality is great. Bonus points if it has increased in value since your purchase.
Even though I buy lottery tickets (because I am convinced that I will win), I really despise wasting money, so I am always looking for the good QPR. Continue reading Q.P.R.

It has been a good week for ship tours. Over the weekend (which seemed very early after Jack’s birthday dinner) I had the opportunity to tour the Norwegian Dawn. NCL is known for “Freestyle” cruising, which means you can eat whenever you want and with whom you choose. There are two main dining rooms and a buffet, as well as specialty restaurants available for an additional charge. It is a really lovely ship. Continue reading NCL Dawn
