 Weinerschnitzel Benedict
My friends have raved about the Sunday brunch at Martin’s for quite a while, so this weekend we decided to give it a try. We arrived around noon and were seated in the back patio. There are a few seating choices: indoors in the dining room, out front watching the passers-by on Duval Street, the back patio and the center, lounge-y part complete with low tables and chairs. I liked our choice. Continue reading Martin’s, Key West

It is a rare occurrence that I find myself in New York City with no plans. Normally I am scheduled all day and night, looking to squeeze in additions (Grom, anyone? How about a jaunt to H&M? I missed out on both this trip). But earlier this week, I was in just that situation, until my cousin’s bowling league game got pushed back a few hours. She immediately texted me: What are you doing for dinner? My response: Meeting you? We met at Txikito, a Basque restaurant on ninth avenue. Continue reading Eating (and Bowling) New York

I lived in New York City for six years after college (a while ago) and loved every minute of it. Well, most minutes of it. The part where I was run over by a taxi on my way to work? Not so much. The constant things to do and places to go? Absolutely. Continue reading I Heart New York

As we were planning our trip, my friend asked us what we would like to do while visiting them. Dining at Frasca was top of my list. “That is the best restaurant in Boulder,” she says to me. Yes, that is precisely why I want to go. She could not get a reservation online so I called about a month ahead of time and secured our table. Continue reading Frasca, Boulder, Colorado

I interrupt my vacation recap of eating, drinking, hiking and biking for a little public service announcement. September is the month restaurants dread most, as there are few tourists and the island is generally quiet. So this is the time of year when many restaurants close for vacation. Before you plan your next meal, take stock of who is closed. Here are some of the restaurants you won’t get to enjoy for a few more weeks. Continue reading Key West Restaurants: Closed for Vacation

Since we were going to Chicago for the Cellar Diminishment Party anyway, naturally I had a list of potential restaurant choices for the following night. We would only be in Chicago for two nights, so that left us with two lunches and one dinner, plus the party. We landed in Chicago, hopped on the Orange Line L train towards downtown and immediately got a call from a friend. “Are you coming to the hotel before you go for pizza?” Indeed, we were. As I was making the Mainland-to-Monroe drive on Friday, I was reveling in the lack of plans I had for the weekend. I had just finished telling FKGuy about how I was looking forward to free museum weekend and some quality time in the pool with a cool beverage in hand. That was it. No other plans. Continue reading Unplanned

I’m always a little leery of “vegetarian” places. I’ve been to several in other places where either they try too hard to be a “real” restaurant or they are just mediocre places to get tofu. Fortunately, The Cafe is neither. The Cafe offers mostly vegetarian fare, which basically means no land animals. They do, however, offer fresh fish. Continue reading The Cafe, Key West

That is a lot of stemware.
Friends of ours who live in Coral Gables are always trying to get us to go to their neighborhood for dinner. Usually, I weasel out of it and make them come someplace near us. But, last week after tennis (for FKGuy) and relaxing in The Biltmore pool (for me), we all had dinner at Palme d’Or, the signature restaurant at The Biltmore hotel. Continue reading Palme d’Or at The Biltmore Hotel, Miami

My sister-in-law is coming to visit this weekend and it will be her first trip to Key West. Naturally, I’ve been trying to plan some fun activities for the weekend. She is coming with my mother-in-law, who has been here before, so I am coming up with things we can do that both will enjoy. Continue reading The First Time
