The Saint Hotel, Key West: Sleeping, Dining, Drinking

One of the newer hotels in Key West, The Saint Hotel, a Marriott Autograph Collection property, offers a lovely bar serving craft cocktails and tasty food. Though they had a rough start getting a liquor license when they first opened, now things are running smoothly. We stopped in for a quick dinner about a week ago.

The Saint Hotel Decor

Greeting you as you walk into the hotel is a giant gold chair, making everyone who sits there feel a bit like Alice in Wonderland. Once you snap your photo, head straight to the bar. The night we were there was quiet, as we were in between happy hour and late night. It was perfect for a bite to eat. The dark room is more bar than restaurant and feels more New York than Key West.

The whole Naughty vs Saintly theme is a bit much, but I am sure there are plenty of people that love it. Despite that, their bar is a great place for a drink or, as we found out, a meal.

The Food

We ordered a bottle of Hahn Santa Lucia Highlands Pinot Noir as we perused the small menu. Starting with the potato knish spring rolls seemed like the best idea possible, because really, how can anything be better than potato knish filling stuffed into a spring roll? The answer, we quickly found out, is that it can’t. These little bites of fried outside, with a creamy, mashed potato inside, topped with creme fraiche, caviar, and scallions, are delicious. A must on any return visit.

Following the potatoes, we shared the duck leg confit and skirt steak. The duck comes with truffle gnocchi and peas. The tender, flavorful meat falls off the bone, as it should, while the fluffy gnocchi rounds out the dish. Steak, cooked to a beautiful medium-rare, is served atop a few vegetables. The meat was slightly oversalted, but it was still very good.

Bottom Line

The entire menu is listed without differentiating between appetizer and entree, so they are all, essentially, small portions. These three dishes were adequate for the two of us, but if we were really hungry we would have ordered another dish.

Food, drink, and service were all very good, and we are looking forward to a return visit. The Saint Hotel bar has a delightful deal during happy hour (4 – 7 PM) when many drinks and food items are half-priced. Visit The Saint Hotel at 417 Eaton Street, in te heart of Old Town Key West.
