It’s that time of year… when people hear it is my birthday, then tell me how sorry they are. Clearly I must have suffered having my birthday on Christmas Eve. I assure you, I did not. Not in the least. But as I am another year older (gasp!) and another year wiser (in theory, anyway), I can reflect on 2014.
Overall, it was a good year. We moved into our new home (and vowed never to move again). We have had many, many out of town visitors, including several first timers to Key West (so, a lot of the touristy stuff). We welcomed a new little mutt, Latke, into our lives (just after the move) and she has made me laugh every day since. Sometimes I am laughing at her silliness, and sometimes I am laughing at myself, having the audacity to leave a perfectly good, chewable pair of shoes just laying around (in the shoe rack). We have traveled to New York, and eaten ourselves silly. We traveled to Jamaica and did absolutely nothing (it was glorious). We have had the luxury of spending quality time with family and friends for holidays, weekends and just because we can.
It was not altogether happy, though. This year we lost FKGuy’s grandmother at 101 years old, and although she lived a very long and healthy life, I did think she would live forever. I met Grandma Annabelle when she was a young 80, and we were very lucky to have her be a part of our lives for as long as we did.
I am looking forward to next year’s adventures: more eating, drinking and merriment with friends. More travel (Alaska is on the list!). And less sweating f the small stuff. I try to do that on a regular basis, but it doesn’t always work.
With that, I will say Happy Birthday to me, and Happy Everything-you-celebrate to you! I will be back with all new blog posts, eating adventures and tales from Key West in 2015. See you then!
