Fantasy Fest 2011: Some Thoughts

It’s mid-October already. You know what that means? Fantasy Fest preparations are in full swing, candidates for King and Queen are out raising money (hopefully lots of it) for Aids Help, and hotels and guesthouses are already booked for the end of month festivities.

Are you looking forward to your first Fantasy Fest? Are you an old pro? Just remember these few little tidbits to help make your trip a little smoother:

  1. What happens at Fantasy Fest does not stay at Fantasy Fest. Generally it ends up on the internet. Remember that if your boss is also your Facebook friend.
  2. Don’t kid yourself. Body paint is not clothing.
  3. The night of the big parade (Saturday, Oct. 29, this year) very few restaurants are open. Plan accordingly as the line at Sandy’s can get quite long.
  4. Wear comfortable shoes. If you don’t want to end up like me, with broken shoes and dollar store, four sizes too big pool shoes, just wear good, comfortable shoes to start with.
  5. Don’t bring your kids. Seriously, just don’t.
  6. Think about your costume in advance: how will you pee? Will your mask allow drinking? These are important things and should not be an afterthought.

With a few bouts of reasonable thinking, Fantasy Fest can be a great time for you. Enjoy!
