The folks at Old World Gourmet were kind enough to send me some samples to try. But don’t feel left out, as there is something in it for you, too. We are giving away drink mixes. If you always want to entertain, but don’t actually want to exert any effort (come on, it happens to all of us on occasion), these OWG drink mixes and snacks are a good choice.
I tried both the lemoncello mix as well as the cracker smack. First up, the drink. The Lemoncello Vino-Licious Freeze is perfect for a hot day (or, if you are in Florida, any day). The instructions say to mix it with a bottle of white wine (I used the Costco brand Pinot Grigio, and I am not afraid to admit it) and a bottle of water and freeze. Then remove from the freezer and stir. Several times. Fortunately there are also blender instructions, which I promptly ignored since all that stuff doesn’t fit in a regular home blender. But we mixed the mix with the wine and some ice and blended. It was very sweet, but with a squeeze of fresh lemon it was a frosty, tasty glass of yumminess.
This is likely not something I would drink every day, but it is something I would like to drink again. And the truth is, if you want to have a few friends around the pool, this is a great thing to serve. Blend up a couple pitchers and be done for the afternoon (well, once you put out the crackers. On to those next.)
I also enjoyed the Cracker Smack, which is a mix that you add to cracker so they “smack you back“. I admit, I was skeptical. The first ingredient is something I can’t pronounce and again, you need to have crackers on hand, mix them with the seasoning and oil and let sit overnight. As you may have figured out, I have no patience for that. Instead I found the only crackers I had in the house (Triscuits), mixed them with seasoning and oil that I didn’t measure and let sit most of the afternoon. No stirring involved. As I looked at these messy crackers, I could not help wonder what I was in for…
On first pass, it tasted like a seasoned cracker. Then they smacked me back. These are spicy suckers, and I imagine after sitting overnight they will be spicier. But I will tell you this: they pair perfectly with that Lemoncello wine mix. Don’t take my word for it, try it for yourself. Enter here to win a product from OWG.
