Free Museum Weekend is Back

There is nothing better than free, right? Well, August 24-26, 2012 you can enjoy a whole bunch of local museums for one low price of zero. Yes, that means they are all FREE. This event was so popular last year that the nice folks at WLRN Public Radio and the Monroe County Tourist Development Council have decided to do it again.

This three day long event provides a free cultural pass for South Florida residents and visitors to experience the rich history of Key West by offering free admission to eleven participating museums.

This is really a good deal. While the Hemingway House is not on the list this year, there are plenty of other great attractions, including some in the middle and upper Keys. Plan your weekend around these great freebies:

  • History of Diving Museum, at 82990 Overseas Highway, in Islamorada.
  • Crane Point Museum & Nature Center, at 5550 Overseas Highway, in Marathon
  • Pigeon Key Foundation, at 1 Knights Key Blvd in Marathon
  • Key West Aquarium, at One Whitehead Street, in Key West
  • Key West Treasures Museum, at One Whitehead Street, in Key West
  • Harry S. Truman Little White House, at 111 Front Street, in Key West
  • Key West Art Center, at 301 Front Street, in Key West
  • Key West Art Garden Club, at 1100 Atlantic Blvd, in Key West
  • Key West’s Oldest House Museum, at 322 Duval Street, in Key West

  • Key West Art & Historical Society- Lighthouse & Keeper’s Quarters, at 938 Whitehead Street, in Key West

What’s the catch, you may be asking? There isn’t one. The only thing you need to do is log onto wlrn.org and click on the “Florida Keys and Key West Museum and Attractions Weekend” banner to print out the complimentary weekend pass.

Follow the link, print out your pass and let me know which was you favorite free museum.
