Fantasy Fest, 2013: Superheroes

Fantasy Fest is just around the corner and this year’s theme is Superheroes, Villains and Beyond. In honor of my being proactive and trying to come up with some costume ideas before October 20, I have decided to share with you some decidedly heroic, and evil cocktail recipes.

Today I am focusing on Superheroes. While I am not a ComicCon reveler, and I have limited knowledge of what makes the upcoming Batman-Superman convergence awesome (you should feel free to enlighten me), I do enjoy a good drink. I also do not think I am going to don a leotard and dress as Wonder Woman, (admittedly, you never know…) but she needs to be represented in the cocktail spectrum. All recipes have been plucked from the awesomeness that is drinksmixer.com.

Wonder Woman

2 oz Midori® melon liqueur
2 oz peach schnapps
3 oz orange juice
1 oz pineapple juice
2 oz cranberry juice

Add ingredients in order to a hurricane glass and you should have a lovely, three layered drink with green, orange and red.

The drink actually sounds so good, I may be inspired to Wonder Woman greatness, as long as I can tote around these drinks with me. We will see.

I can assure you that I will most definitely not be dressing as “Bond, James Bond” for this event. Although his heroic James Bond in Havana cocktail is mouthwatering. For mine, I may have to skip on the vodka, but it sounds rather refreshing, no?

James Bond in Havana

3 oz gin
1 oz vodka
1/2 oz bianco vermouth
5 crushed mint leaves

Are you going to have yours shaken or stirred?

Finally, in the hero drinking tour, we have the ever-popular, often imitated, Superman. Don’t worry, I won’t be dressing up as him, either. This may be an idea for FKGuy… Superman rates with his own drink, that I have to admit, sounds a little frou-frou for our hero. What do you think?

Superman

1 oz gin
3/4 oz dry vermouth
1/2 oz apricot brandy
1 oz mandarin juice
1 tsp grenadine syrup

Shake with a glassful of broken ice and pour unstrained into an old-fashioned glass.

Are you coming to Fantasy Fest this year? Share your costume ideas with me! I promise not to steal your ideas unless they are (a) really good and (b) really easy.  Want more Fantasy Fest? Check it out on Facebook,  Twitter and the official website, and make your way to Key West for the festivities October 18th – 27th.
