It has been a long time since I wrote about New Years Resolutions, mostly because I don’t make them. I have no interest in coming up with ways to better myself, then failing and feeling even worse.
However, there are few things that started in 2013 that I am going to continue into the coming year. Number one, the semi-Paleo diet. My diet has gone completely off the rails with two cruises, Christmas, my birthday and New Years. I’ll be heading back to diet land in just a few short days. Life is, in a way, better over there. I feel good. I lose tiny amounts of weight, which continually validates my obsession with the number on the scale. One day (hopefully soon) the obsession with the scale will pay off with a new, smaller wardrobe. (This will all be hanging in a giant thought bubble as I make a not-so-healthy dinner tomorrow might…)
The other thing that I have been trying very hard to do (and succeeding, at least on a limited basis) is approaching unpleasant conversations with calmness. I am much better at getting all worked up and yelling and making myself nuts, but it seems a bit less effective.
On a more passive-aggressive note, I have noticed that when people call soliciting me for something, I like to just put the phone down and continue what I was doing. That way, I can keep working and the person on the other end of the line can’t be calling and annoying someone else. Sometimes it takes quite a long time for them to realize nobody is listening. I find this far more satisfying than simply hanging up.
I don’t really need to quantify my non-resolutions, but I will.
1. New, smaller wardrobe (which means the weight loss must happen)
2. Calmer (which means I need to exercise more so that I am too tired to be argumentative.)
3. Letting tele-marketers drone on and on while I ignore them. (This seems like the easiest one to achieve, by a mile.)
