If you like hot sauce, playing really mean jokes on your friends back home or just some fun little gifts, you must go to Peppers next time you are in Key West. I live on the island 3 days a week and go there more than is probably normal.
After the run-in with local law enforcement on the Bahia Honda bridge, I was ready to play tour guide. Being a foodie, much like me, Cousin decides to taste through the whole lineup at Peppers. The crew at Peppers clearly likes to have fun and can turn just about anything you say into a double entendre. It is a skill, really. As they were having a field day with the likes of “They are all blending together in the back of my throat” we decide that what they really need is a board with customer quotes somewhere in the shop. I fear, however, it may turn into something like Captain Tony’s, where one woman left her bra hanging from the ceiling and now there are hundreds…
High points of the sauce tasting include the Palo Alto Fire Fighters sauce made from peppers that the fire chief grows, Lottie’s hot pepper mustard sauce from Barbados and the ever popular Green Lava made with avocados (and fabulous on a fish taco).
Peppers is a landmark. They have been featured on the Today Show, giving Matt and Al milk in a sippy cup to ease their pain. Come here to find the perfect holiday gift. For the jerk in your life you can get a bottle of Anal Angst (yes that is a real hot sauce). Tell Pete the Florida Keys Girl sent you, and he may pretend to care. Happy eating.
