I think it is important to have things planned that you are looking forward to doing. For some people it is Fantasy Fest (happening now, photos likely next week), although that is not on my “looking forward to” list, even though it can be lots of fun.
Vacation, on the other hand, is tops on that list, and my upcoming cruise is no different. Before the hustle of the holidays (and my – and Jesus’ – birthday), FKGuy and I will be cruising around the Caribbean. Don’t worry, there will be a full report later. During that time, Babka is also going to be on vacation, staying at with friends that seem to have no rules. It will be a sad, sad day for her when she realizes that vacation is over and she needs to go back to the every day routine.
Wait, it will be a sad day for us, too. After many days of drinking champagne while watching the clear blue waters pass by, going back to work is likely to be an unwelcome reality. I think I will have to drink champagne at my desk for several days just to wean myself off the vacation lifestyle. Suddenly work isn’t looking too bad…
With Thanksgiving a mere four weeks away, I have started my Looking Forward To/Not So Much list. Here is the start, in no particular order:
Looking Forward To: Vacation, Not So Much: Reentry (although I will be rather pleased to see Babka again), and putting on a bathing suit in public.
Looking Forward To: Seeing visiting family over thanksgiving, Not So Much: All of the prep work that the big turkey meal entails (although my great aunt will once again be called upon to clean the turkey. That I can’t handle.)
Looking Forward To: Potentially moving to a new house, Not So Much: Packing. And unpacking. And cleaning.
Looking Forward To: Holiday parties that are fun, Not So Much: Holiday parties that suck, but I have to go to, anyway. Fortunately, I don’t think there are too many of them this year.
Looking Forward To: Babka being dressed up for Halloween, Not So Much: trying to get her into costume without her trying to kill or eat it. We’ll see how that goes.
What are you looking forward to (or not) this holiday season? I’m sure my list will keep growing, as the list of things to do grows.
