In a shack greatly resembling a camp bunk (note: the camp bunks of my youth, not the fancy ones of today with air conditioners and clothes dryers…) , complete with fold down windows, in the midst of Key Lime Square, stands Lobo’s Mixed Grill. It has been taken over by new owners sometime in the last year, and it is good.
The menu is huge, with a variety of wraps, quesadillas, and burgers. All wraps can be served as a salad, which in trying-to-
be-on-a-diet land, is quite helpful. We started with an order of firecrackers (jalapeno poppers), which were good, because a cheddar stuffed spicy pepper that is deep fried is never going to be bad.
We each ordered a wrap-as-salad. Mine was seared tuna with pickled ginger, sprouts and provolone over a bed of spinach. Wasabi mayo and soy sauce come on the side. FKGuy had a
Spicy Southwestern Club salad with cheddar, turkey, roast beef and spicy chipotle mayo. First of all, portions are big. But they are also good. Frankly, I could not believe how good seared tuna from a camp bunk with picnic benches could be. It was delicious.
Lobo’s also has a variety of beer choices. They do have wine, too, but that is not their strong suit. (I had a glass of Naked Grape Pinot Grigio, which was surprisingly drinkable, with my salad.)
Overall, it is a great place for a quick bite, or if you don’t want a meal to linger over. While you do order at the counter, food is brought out to you, and it is both friendly and efficient. Lobo’s is also very reasonably priced. One appetizer, two salads, a beer and a glass of wine came to $40. The question is always “would I go back?” Yes, undoubtedly. They also deliver.
Lobo’s is located in Key Lime Square, near the corner of Southard and Duval, behind Onlywood and Old Town Mexican. they are open for lunch and dinner Monday through Saturday, and closed on Sunday. Have you been? What did you think?

Hi there! Just found your blog & can’t wait to read more! We travel to Key West quite a few times a year and am counting down to retirement! Lobo’s is always one of our first stops when we get there – the wraps are huge and I love that there’s lots to choose from for us non meat eaters! I love the wild mushroom & the monster veg! The basket of fries was large & definitely big enough to split between two or more – and I love their spicy mushroom quesadilla! I’ve never had anything there I didn’t love! I will have to try the poppers on our next trip — diet schmiet!
Next time I am definitely going to try the mushroom quesadilla!
I come away wondering why the wraps are so bland. In a town with more and more inexpensive memorable options, Lobos doesn’t stand out. Yebo, White Street Station, Badboy,DJ’s, they all have something to say. Lobos doesn’t.
Interesting. I have only had salads and dressings/sauces come on the side, and have found them anything but bland. Bad Boy, on the other hand is delicious, but pricey, offers small portions, no place (really) to sit and painfully long delivery times. DJ’s is great, too, but a whole different kind of food… I don’t go there when I want a salad.
As for White Street Station, I have not yet been, but FKGuy has and left unimpressed. Still need to get over to Yebo.
