In Training

You may have noticed the purple box on the side of this page that says “Donate Now” (if you haven’t, now is a good time to notice, and take action). This is to raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and support me in the Disney Half Marathon on January 8, 2011.

That is 13.1 miles. I have never run more than three blocks. I will be training for the next three and a half months to be able to complete this course. Why would a person who has never run suddenly decide to do this? Good question. You read about the adventures last week with our friends in Maryland. They are both athletes – tennis, marathon running, Ironman competitions – and I generally feel really lazy around them. They seem to think I can do this, as do many others. I wonder if everyone is overestimating me? I think that because I know how to swap out an electrical outlet and fix a leaking toilet that everyone else must as well – after all, it’s really not that hard. Is it possible that all of these people think that because they can run marathons I can too?

We will have to wait and see. I have begun walking/jogging (a little) and I will be training with the Key West Team In Training. They started six weeks ago. I still need new running shoes and better sports bras. I am feeling a little behind the 8-ball here. The training schedule says I should be doing 6 miles this week. SIX MILES??? I seriously hope that nobody thinks I should be running 6 miles already. I can definitely walk the 6 miles.

This should be an interesting journey. I will keep you posted on the progress. In the meantime, feel free to leave some words of encouragement, and click on the purple box to donate to the cause!
