Happy Birthday Aboard Danger Charters

Last year, as I reached a  – ahem – milestone birthday, we were also in the process of moving out of a house we lived in for thirteen years, and into a new house. Needless to say, the birthday was not so exciting. We did manage to have a nice dinner with friends on the actual birthday, but I usually like to celebrate for several weeks, so overall it was a fail. It was not the best birthday by a long shot. And I felt old.

This year, I decided that FKGuy should plan something fun for my birthday. I really didn’t care what it was, as long as I didn’t have to do any of the planning. He ended up planning a sunset cruise aboard Danger Charters with a bunch of our friends. (This was actually pretty genius since it required no food or beverage planning.) We had perfect weather for the evening sail.

We gathered on the dock, enjoyed some champagne and headed out to enjoy the sunset on the water. One of the great things about Danger is that they have decent wine. In fact, they have a full on wine tasting with eight different selections. (Note: if the seas are not perfectly calm, it is probably a better bet to enjoy white wine rather than red wine, as many of us found out the hard way. Fortunately, the crew keeps a spray bottle of Oxy Clean around. Clearly we are not  the first people to have had a red wine fail.) We enjoyed sparkling wine, torrontes, chardonnay and a French rosé, along with merlot, chianti, cabernet sauvignon and Bordeaux. Overall, the wines are enjoyable, and there is a lot of it being poured.

…and after the sail, this happened.

The sunset sail was a success, as we all had a good time. Despite having only been in Key West a few years, we have met some truly wonderful people that I am proud to call my friends, and I thank them all for celebrating with me.
