I still have a bunch of buy-one-get-one-free deals on my Woman’s Club Restaurant Card, so I have been trying to use them. Last week we decided to try Southernmost Beach Cafe. I had only been there for lunch, when the menu consists of mostly burger and nacho type stuff, so I was curious to see what dinner was all about.
We arrived to a few minute wait and were given a pager, Cheesecake Factory-style. While that was not so impressive (this is a friendly island – not a big shopping mall), we did end up with a lovely corner table overlooking the beach on two sides, which was just beautiful.
We started with a light and easy drinking bottle of Masi Masianco, a blend of Pinot Grigio and Verduzzo. Since all the entrees are served with a salad, we did not feel the need to order a separate appetizer. The salads are basic though crisp, and topped with a yummy, citrus-y dressing.
We ordered the blackened mahi-mahi, which is topped with a mango salsa and served with rice and vegetables. I didn’t know what to expect, as I was used to the super casual lunch menu here, but the fish was cooked perfectly. The salsa was delicious and the vegetables were more than just an afterthought. I was delighted.
We also ordered the wasabi crusted tuna, which is seared rare. The wasabi topping is outstanding. the fish, though rare, managed to still be warm inside. Overall, it was all delicious. So much so, that when it came time for dessert, even though they all sounded good, we were stuffed.
The meal was great, the setting beautiful and our service was good. Can’t really ask for more than that! Southernmost Beach Cafe is located at the end of Duval (behind Southernmost on the Beach Hotel) on the Atlantic Ocean. They also have a full bar perfect for happy hour on the sand if you don’t want to commit to a full meal.
