Rosh Hashana: Happy New Year

This is my delicious, homemade gefilte fish. It ain’t your Grandma’s fish, and it bears no resemblance to that nasty, jellied stuff in a jar.

This evening marks the start of Rosh Hashana, the Jewish New Year. This week we celebrate (read: eat a lot) Next week we get to fast and repent for our sins.

In honor of Rosh Hashana, my parents and in-laws are all gathering in Key West, where we will be joined by friends for many a festive meal. Gefilte fish, matzo ball soup (my first attempt at matzo balls and kreplach), chicken, meatballs, brisket, lamb and more desserts than I can count will grace the table for the festivities.

I’ll share photos next week, but meanwhile, I am signing off until Monday. If you celebrate Rosh Hashana, Happy New Year. If you know someone that does, wish them a happy new year. This is a time for celebrating. And eating. May this be a sweet year for all.
